The lead prosecutor in the Joseph Hartzler, told NBC News thatMcVeigh is "a master of selfdeception and self-worship." "the wanted the death penalty, he could have stayed in the truck, or walked into the building," Hartzler said. The documents also were delivered Thursday to lawyers for codefendant Terry Nichols, who was convicted of conspiracy and involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to life in prison. Similar documents formed the basis of a previous, unsuccessful appeal by Nichols, who claimed the papers could have cleared him.

(AP) A sheriff indicted on rape charges has gone back to work a week after bonding out of jail. Pike County Sheriff Jeff Clements, 44, is accused of raping a 33-year-old woman in his rural mobile home near Otwell on April 6. A grand jury indicted him on charges of rape and sexual assault "He is working," Pike County Commissioners President Stephen Stidd said Wednesday. "That's about all I can tell you." Stidd declined to comment when asked if he thought it was appropriate that Clements work while under indictment. Clements was released from the Gibson County, Jail May 4 after posting a bond of $10,000 cash and $50,000 property.

Clements has not commented, but: Pike County dispatchers confirmed the sheriff has been back at work. Mike Estinger; director of the indiana Sheriffs Association, said last week that Clements should take a leave of absence until the charges against him are resolved. If convicted on both charges, Clements could face up to 23 years in prison and fines totaling $30,000. An innocent plea was entered on the sheriff's behalf during a May 3 arraignment. Clements' next court appearance is set for June 18.

7:07 07 P.M. Sunday, 4:00 and 7:00 P.M. Woman killed, child hurt in bus accident SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) A woman was killed and her greatgranddaughter was seriously hurt when they were struck by a bus at a South Bend city bus terminal. Elizabeth Williams, 51, and the 5-year-old child were waiting for a bus Thursday afternoon when the bus lurched forward, drove onto a pedestrian island, sideswiped another bus and ran over them, police said.

Williams was killed instantly. Her great was airlifted to the University of Chicago-Wyler Children's Hospital in critical condition. Police said they were still trying to determine the cause of the accident. Officials with the Transpo bus company said the bus driver is a 28-year-veteran at the company. Officials investigate kidnapped girls father GARY, Ind.

(AP) Investigators in Indiana and Nevada are looking into claims by an 11-year-old girl that she was sexually abused, possibly by a family member, before she disappeared with the former principal of her Baptist school. Since the girl and former Liberty Baptist Academy Principal William A. Beith were spotted Tuesday in Las Vegas, the FBI and Nevada Department of Family and Children have refused to let her return to Gary. The agencies have imposed a no-contact order on her parents, preventing them from talking with Gabrielle, except for one brief telephone conversation on Tuesday, the Post-Tribune of Merrillville reported Friday. "I have no comment," the father said after being asked if he sexually molested his daughter.

The girl's mother, however, released a statement saying she believed Beith, 28, put her daughter up to making the charges against the father. "This is a small family in a small house. If improper contact was going on, I would have known. I support my husband 100 percent," said the statement read by Jerry Kaifetz, who is acting as a family spokesman. Beith, 28, faces Nevada charges of first-degree kidnapping and sexual assault and lewdness, both with a child younger than 14.

He faces federal charges of enticing a minor into sexual acts and transporting a minor across state lines for sexual purposes. One of the issues focused on was in regard to the consistency of the code.

Within the new code, discretion is given to the principal in regard to criminal violations other than alcohol and tobacco violations. Board member David Abernathy questioned as to why there is discretion given for those types of violations. Stebbins stated that those types of incidences need to be looked at on a case by case basis to judge the severity of the offense. "I recall an incidence when a group of athletes all took a sip of alcohol and got' the same punishment as someone who drank the whole bottle," stated Abernathy citing the differences in the severity of the alcohol offenses. Abernathy also stated that by adding discretion into the code the board is opening itself up to lawsuits.

The board agreed to continue searching the proposed new athletic code at the next meeting. Edgewood Principal Francie Metzger informed the board about the recent dental services performed at the elementary school by Mobile Dentist. continued from page one Metzger stated that 47 students at Edgewood and 25 students at Oakland took part in the program. She added, however, that the program was not all that she and school nurse Debbie Durm had anticipated. "They were not as cordial as we thought they would be," stated Metzger.

Austin announced several personnel matters for board approval. First, the board approved a transfer request from Stephanie Fletcher from Edgewood to South Elwood. Fletcher will be filling the vacancy left by Patty Baker, who is retiring at the end of the school year. The board has accepted the resignation of David Hoffman from the school's seat on the North Madison County Public Library System Board. The board agreed to post the vacancy in order to fill the seat.

Austin made several announcements of upcoming events including the high school variety show on May 19-20, the art show and spaghetti supper at Edgewood from 5 p.m. on May 17, and a Joe Harris benefit concert on Saturday, May 12 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The next meeting of the school board will be a special meeting lat 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Court clerk James Manspeaker said the defense would have to go to the 10th U.S.

Circuit Court of Appeals, also in Denver, to file a motionto consider new evidence. Matsch planned no action unless an appeal is filed. "If something is filed he'll take a look at it," Manspeaker said. The legal standard for granting such a motion requires the court to determine the verdict could have been different if the jury had been allowed to see the documents. The Justice Department said the mistake was discovered after an FBI archivist requested bombing-related materials be sent to the Oklahoma field office.

The department asked defense attorneys to notify them if they believe the documents throw McVeigh's guilt into question.
