Ray Striker reminded us of this in a note in which he was predicting a special upcoming date in Elwood'a history.

In looking back Instead of forward we have this totter from another one of our faithful readers and writers. It has to do with inflation. How the cost of things have gone up.

This had to do with hospital and funeral expenses. This was dated April 30. 1936. It was the Robert Jackley Funeral Home. It follows: Casket and Services complete bilitation Center.

He was a former resident of Noblesville. Bom July 4, 1923, in Noblesville, he was the son of William and Gayle Moore Bowers Hosier. He was a graduate of Walnut Grove High School. He was a retired farmer. He also worked for McKnight International Sales, Elwood; GuK OH Frankton; and Farm Bureau Coop, Arcadia.

He was a member of Aroma Methodist Church, Cicero Lions Club and Noblesville Efcs Club. Surviving are two daughters, Christine Law of Tipton and Cathy J. Palmer of Muncie; one sister, Velma Hazelbaker ef Lapel; and two grandchildren. Services wil be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Hartley Funeral Homes, Cicero Chapel.

Burial wil be in Neese Cemetery near Perkinsville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. She is survived by her parents, Larry K. and Margaret (Prieshoff) Hudson; grandparents, tony ana Joanne Prieshoff of Elwood; two sisters, Kelly McClain of Indianapolis and Terri EdgeU of Elwood; two nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services wil be at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Copher Fesler Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

SERVICES Funeral services for William W. Mullins, 87, 1 806 S. Plaza Drive, Apt 31, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday 'at Dunnichay Funeral Home with the Revs. Earl and Caroline Christopher officiating.

Back then a person could get sick and even afford to die without insurance or health care. But that was back in 1936! from pad English and probably understands more than he speaks. One activity that helped this summer Is attending preschool in Elwood, where he gets to interact with children his own age, speak English and learn to play. Ernso goes to preschool in Elwood because his adoptive mother drives a bus for Etwood's summer school. Susie and Mark Brown have been to Haiti on missionary trips so they have picked up some of the Creole language.

They can communicate with their son In his native language as well as his new language. Friends who recently picnicked with the Browns were asked to interpret what Ernso was saying as he played. Susie said It tore at her heart to hear him talk about how his mother had Just dropped down on the side of the road and died. Brown looks forward to when Ernso can speak more fluent English and share all his feelings with his newfound family. brothers.

25, 1912in Toulon, III. and resided in Anderson most of his life. He retired from Guide Lamp where he was a die setter for 35 years. He was a member of UAW Local 663. He was a veteran of the U.S.

Army and served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Vera Smiley of Anderson, whom ha married Nov. 22, 1961; two daughters, Julian Part on of Chesterfield and Connie Shellabarger of Daleville; two sons, Dana Smiley of Elwood and Mike Massey of Anderson; a brother, John E. Smiley of Ft Atkinson, a sister, Elenore Weakley of Onarga, 17 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Faulkenburg in 1989.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home in Anderson with the Rev. Ron Mabrey officiating. Burial wiU be at East Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may caK from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

Vincent Mercy Hospital after an extended illness. Ha was born Sept. 14, 1905 in Monrovia, Ind. to Dr. Frank and Julia (Hadley) Horton.

Ha taught school for 41 years in Henry, Delaware and Madison Counties. Twenty-one of those years were spent teaching in the Elwood school system. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He has had both prose and poetry published and has travelled extensively. He graduated from Ball State University with a MS degree and from Indiana University with a MA degree.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Ellison; two children, Diana Brown of Elwood and Devonne Horton of ver, two brothers, Wendell Horton of Canoga Park, Calif, and Wynn Horton of Hemet, a sister, Ruth Warrick of Morro Bay, Calif. and a grandson. He was preceded in death by two $175.00 Family oon(inid "the States," and that people in higher classes wear clothes, something he didn't have. What he knew was how to select the best fruit and how to wash clothes by hand. Ernso finds wearing shoes and clothing a great delight.

He loves trips to Wal-Mart and to dry his hands with the air-blowers in the restroom. He plays with puzzles, a rotary dial toy phone and pretends to take visitors' pictures with a point-and-shoot camera. Mother Susie Brown says Ernso is adjusting weU to life in Tipton. He loves such dishes as beans and rice and spaghetti and has learned to say he, is hungry as he passes local fast food restaurants. Surprisingly, Ernso does not like candy, something he rarely had.

He likes puppets more than cartoons and is learning to like television. When Ernso saw himself in a picture, he was in awe to see his own image. j. Ernso speaks Creole, a combination of French and his native tribal language.
