Anderson Elwood. Services for Dorothy E. Lytle, Greyhound Mike Williamson of Lexington, who said he was going to Fort Myers, to start a job, complained that Greyhound offered no refunds. "They knew about this ahead of time and they could have told us when we bought our tickets," he said. "This is ridiculous; they don't seem like they care too much." Dallas, more than 40 pickets encircled the downtown bus terminal and blocked two incoming Greyhound buses, cheering when the drivers abandoned their vehicles.

A handful of pickets blocked a departing bus for about 20 minutes in Minneapolis. The bus, marked "charter," pulled out of the terminal onto a side street just before 8 a.m. when one picket, Mike Vervanac, pulled open the door and told the driver, "We can't guarantee your safety down the road." Another picket, Joyce Wegener, called the driver a scab. said later, "The man's got my job." A security guard said police would be called and told the driver to continue. The bus halted again when pickets walked in front of it and didn't move for several minutes.

Gas continued from page smaller building. The service enhancements that ultimately will result from the reorganization and must be in place before it is complete, Morgan said, include a centralized remittance operation, and toll-free telephone number for immediate answers to billing questions, outreach representatives to provide direct, personal contact with customers and payment outlets for customers who want a place to pay their bills locally. The centralized remittance operation, he said, will be put in place at the corporate headquarters in Indianapolis and will take advantage of efficient new sophisticated automation, capable of reading addresses and other information and actually posting payments to respective accounts. All of the toll-free customer service and credit and collection service calls willl be received by the regional offices, Morgan said, and the outreach representatives will provide a personal touch in the customer service area, making housecalls and acting as liaisons between company, the elderly, the handicapped, shutins and social service agencies. To provide local payment outlets, Morgan said Indiana Gas hopes to contract with either a large retail merchant or financial institution.

Morgan called the gas company's impetus toward community involvement an "increased citizenship" that will result in a greater presence and active involvement by Indiana Gas in terms of employee participation and monetary support LEADER Published Daily Except Sundays and holidays. Young-Nichols Funeral charge of the continued from page 1 Rob Wilkins, 22, of London, said the strike had disrupted his plans to tour America by bus.

He was trying to get from Minneapolis to Memphis, Tenn. "I'm not going to see Elvis," he lamented. "I come to bloody America and they're on strike." Several buses also were delayed in Cleveland, where pickets jeered and pounded their fists on departing and arriving vehicles. In Pittsburgh, where violence broke out during a bus strike seven years ago, six workers picketed peacefully while stranded passengers snoozed. Sharon Kois, a senior at West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va., was trying to get to Bozeman, for a job interview Saturday.

She said a ticket agent asked her, "Don't you read the papers?" when she arrived to catch her bus. She then reserved seats on an Amtrak train bound for Montana. The company said it was unsure it the picket lines would be honored by other unions, including drivers at urban mass transit systems the company operates in various cities. for community economic development programs. But perhaps the brightest spot in the reorganization, according 1 to Morgan, is treatment of employees caught up in the transition.

Centering on customer service personnel in Elwood, Morgan said they basically have three options, including positions at regional offices in Noblesville or Muncie, or the third option of going to work at corporate headquarters. He said he was delighted that the company waived its close proximity residency requirements for customer service employees, thus allowing them to commute to their new jobs and not uprooting them from the communities in which they may have settled. The emphasis, he said, is placing the right people in the right jobs. As is true with any reorganization, the number of jobs available will be reduced, Morgan said. But he indicated the company has made 190 employees age 55 and over eligible for early retirement.

Likewise, he said, that in some circumstances, an employee may not want or be able to commute or relocated, and the company has put in place a severance plan based on employee longevity. He said Indiana Gas hopes to accomplish the needed reduction in force through the financial package available for those eligible for early retirement. Many of those employees, he said, have indicated they favor the latter route. by BERNARD J. SCHUCK We bought a book, a thesaurus back in 1928.

It helped us get through the college freshman stonewall of Freshman Composition. A thesaurus, as a reminder if you have forgotten, is a book that gives you a list of synonyms and antonyms for any word you might choose. You think of a certain word and it just doesn't fit exactly the way you want to say. Go to your thesaurus and you have a list of the shading of each word. Next to the dictionary it is your best guide to writing.

One thing that fascinated us about this book was how it had all the different words of each color. As you know there are thousands of different colors recognizable to the human eye. Basically, as we recall off the top of our head, there are eight English -words to describe them as red, blue, yellow, green, et cetera. But the English language has many, many more to describe the variations of those basic colors. That old thesaurus listed most of them.

All you had to do is look up the color and there would be a laundry list of variations of that color. We lost that book or loaned it to someone who never returned it. We needed a thesaurus and we received the latest one, art expensive book, as a Christmas gift. It had most of what we wanted but somehow they just didn't have all those words of shades of the basic colors. To us that was important.

Not a poet by profession, although in some idle moment or prompted by someone, we scribble out a bit of verse. Serious poets would need a book listing not only rhymes but words describing the variations of colors. Violets are not always blue. They are usually purple, but some are blue, others blue and white, some white and some yellow. And, of course, we know that roses are not all red.

Each year some botanist comes up with a patented rose in a different shade of color. And there are thousands of shades of color left for each generation of botanists. Back to the words that describe the color we want to use, sometimes it is chartreuse, mauve or just plain black or white. But even here there are varying shades of white and black: Just to sum up, we came across a note we had made from that old thesaurus of 1938. Under the heading of RED we had copied: carmine cerise, crimson, magenta, maroon, ruby, scarlet, sanguine.

And these: blood red, carnation red, cherry, red, Chinese red, chrome red, claret red, copper red, fire red; flame red. Also, Indian red, infrared, iron red, light red, Naples red; Persian red, Pompeiian red, poppy red, tile red, Turkey red, Van Dyke red, Venetian red and wine red. Getting into fancy words for red this old thesaurus had these words: rubescence, erubescence, rubicundity, rubricity and floridity. If you knew any of those, you probably score excellent those word tests in the Readers Digest.
