She married John William Bauer, who preceded her in death May 1, 1979. She was a homemaker and belonged to the St. John's Lutheran RACHAEL WARRINER FRANKTON Rachael Painter Warriner, 81, Frankfort, died Thursday evening in the Extended Care Unit at Community Hospital in Anderson. She was born Dec. 10, 1908, in Alexandria.

Her husband of 53 years, Wilbur Warriner, survives. She lived most of her life in Frankton and retired in 1972 from ueico Hemy after having worked there for 28 years. She was a Over 50 by BERNARD J. SCHUCK We bought a book, a thesaurus back in 1 928. it helped us get through the college freshman stonewall of Freshman Composition.

A thesaurus, as a reminder if you have forgotten, is a book that gives you a list of synonyms and antonyms for any word you might choose. You think of a certain word and it just doesn't fit exactly the way you want to say. Go to your thesaurus and you have a list of the shading of each word. Next to the dictionary it is your best guide to writing. One thing that fascinated us about this book was how it had all the different words of each color.

As you know there are thousands of different colors recognizable to the human eye. Basically, as we recall off the top of our head, there are eight English words to describe them as red, blue, yellow, green, et cetera. But the English language has many, many more to describe the variations of those basic colors. That old thesaurus listed most of them. All you had to do is look up the color and there would be a laundry list of variations that color.

We lost that book or loaned it to someone who never returned it. We needed a thesaurus and we received the latest one, art expensive book, as a Christmas gift It had most of what wq wanted but somehow they just didn't have all those words or shades of the basic colors. To us that was important Not a poet by profession, although in some idle moment or prompted by someone, we scribble out a bit of verse. Serious poets would need a book listing not only rhymes but words describing the variations of colors. Violets are not always blue.

They are usually purple, but some are blue, others blue and white, some white and somd yellow. And, of course, we know that roses are not all red. Eacrj year some botanist comes up with a patented rose in a different shade of color. And there are thousands of shades of color left for each generation of botanists. Back to the words that describe the color we want to usej sometimes it is chartreuse, mauve or just plain black or white, But even here there are varying shades of white and black Just to sum up, we came across a note we had made from that old thesaurus of 1938.

Under the heading of RED we had copied: carmine cerise, crimson, magenta, maroon, ruby, scarlet, sanguine. And these: blood red, carnation red, cherry red, Chinese red, chrome red, claret red, copper red, fire red; flame red. Also, Indian red, infrared, iron red, light red, Naples red; Persian red, Pompeiian red, poppy red, tile red, Turkey red, Van Dyke red, Venetian red and wine red. Getting into fancy words for red this old thesaurus had theser words: rubescence, erubescence, rubicundity, rubricity and floridity. If you knew any of those, you probably score excellent on' those word tests in the Readers Digest.
