CAKES COOKIES CUPCAKES BROWNIES PIES Call 552-6553 for Details We have occasionally certain flashes of poetry.

We don't know whether they are original or just a trick of our memory bank. Regardless, we have this little verse we think should be passed along: "No beauty compares with that which lies In the innocent sparkle of a little child's eyes." B.J.S. We get calls about many of our columns. We often wonder if they might be boring. But so far they have been nice comments.

One of our readers told us he read every word of Ray Striker's detailed history of the Elwood Lawn Mower Factory. A lady called to tell us she enjoyed the photo of the recent Central School kids. She said she knew many of the children. Another Over 50 reader said she particularly likes the columns about how things were back in Elwood's history. We appreciate these comments.

We try to mix up the subjects we write about. We like your contributions. It's your column. If you were inspired or even amused by something you read in your church bulletin or other source send it to us. Share it with others.

People Speak To the Editor: The 22 veterans' children from Knightstown Home were thrilled at the party held for them here in Elwood last Saturday. They gave away big hugs and thank yous before they returned. We say a big THANK YOU to all who helped in any way. Again, we made no personal solicitations, but had a great response on a voluntary basis. The people in Elwood are WONDERFUL! All gifts were purchased in Elwood.

The following helped with cash donations, merchandise, hard work food: Don and Nancy Caldwell, Vicki Linder, Mr. Mrs. Anonymous, Mary Linegar, Ron and Elaine Klein, Bill Fuzzell, Jerry Lipginski, Venice Corbett, HR and Mary Miller, Mary Belle Fisher, Earl and Lois Darling, Jean and Dorothy Cloud, Bud and Lillian Towner, Harold and Evelyn Gerard, John and Janice Hood, Elsie Brown, Bob Johns, John and Rose Collier, Ted and Alma Idlewine. Also, Just Wright Shirts and Sports, Prestige Art Glass, Jim and Beth Cole, Mosers, Hooks Drugs, Closeouts, Jeanette Fortson, Roger and Carol Ashby, Lois Norris, mary Huntzinger, Rayna Harris, Joyce Chambers, Verna Jackson, Carolyn Bulla and Bill Priest. The Moose Lodge was most cooperative in every way and their facilities were ideal for such an occasion.

The children were given $560 worth of quarters to enjoy the delights of the pool table, juke box and toygrab machine. Jerry Lipginski, one of our own members, again made a fine Mr. HoHo-Ho, and he doesn't need to dress up to play the part. Again, THANKS from all the kids that all of YOU made so happy and also from us! The American Legion Elwood Post Attention: Elwood Call-Leader: This is an example of tax dollar waste we are uncovering. We are needing help from the people in the Elwood area.

Any assistance you can give us in print would be greatly appreciated. Judge Pancol: In reference to our telephone conversation about your orthopedic chair, Friday, November 15th, you made the comment that judge's chairs usually cost the taxpayers $1000, so therefore you saved about $200.00. I would suggest, Judge Pancol, that you have your purchasing agent shop a little better the next time a judge's chair is needed. I refer you to Miller Huggins 1992 Office Products Catalog, page 21, lower right corner. I quote, "Executive High Back Swivel Tilt Judges Chair $616.00, with 2 color choices." Sincerely, Mrs.

Ronald Rehm The chair ordered by Judge Panwas $820. He supposedly has a cold back. This is not the taxpayers' place to pay for a special chair. Madison Co. P.A.T.H.

Taxpayer Association Dear Editor: When I sat down to first write this letter I was mad and angry and wanted to really write how I bad it was to have our Christmas outside lights stolen from in front of our home. How my two small grandchildren would be disappointed to have the lights not twinkling. But as I sat and cried, I stopped and thought, "NO! I won't let you dishearten our home. This our Lord's birthday and I will forgive and remember that Christmas love is within all of us." I do hope you who seek 1 to destroy and steal will someday learn to know this too.
